Why Blog?
I finally recieved a reply to my posts!! Anyone who can click a mouse can read it.. And anyone can see the kindness exuding throughout the message. Rudizink has a point... I could stand to post more- particularly if I'm going to be calling this blog "Ogden's Optimist". After reading the comment, I had to ask myself the question- "Why am I even doing this?" The answer is fairly evident. I am doing this for me!! So call me a selfish ignorant fool. That's okay by me. If I were truly concerned that people might not like what I write, I wouldn't blog.
This blog is not intended to shed "scientific" proof or any research as to why things should or should not happen in Ogden. There are other sites that do that to the extreme. That is why I created this blog. This is not a blog where I am going to explain tit for tat why anything should be done. There are those who have their opinions and no matter what proof is given them, they will remain pig-headed and stubborn. So why cast pearls before swine?
I blog, because it is refreshing. It is good to be able to write your feelings and put them up for public scrutiny. It's good to see the scrutiny, get a few chuckles, and move on.
I want this to be a ray of sunshine. So what if I sound too idyllic or "unrealistic". The problem is, too many want to wallow in the quagmires of "we've tried and failed" before the train's really left the station.
If you don't like the blog, I'm sorry. I just don't see the point in being down in the mouth just because change might hurt a bit. Regardless of what happens, I know that those who are positive as well as those who are more inclined to dwell on the negative are after the same thing-- a better place for us to raise our families. And at the end of the day, if that's what ultimately happens, none of us lose.

There's an old writer's axiom, Lancer: "Writers write."
It can be interpreted several ways. The most obvious is that a true writer will write, even if limited to crayons and the back of envelopes.
The less obvious interpretation is that writers can only be called "writers," if they cast aside "writer's block," and plough into their craft.
I prefer the second interpretation.
Perhaps I was a little harsh on you in my comment, which you referenced.
I thought you needed a kick in the butt, frankly.
My friends and assocites will confirm that I'm always jagged and blunt.
It's not that I dislike your blog. It's just that I sense that you're something of a folk philosopher, with more than a little writing ability, to boot, who's willing to post occasonally, on a whatever whim moves you.
I've been coming back almost every day since I first caught onto your blog, and I don't see anything happening; and I know you have the talent to add to the local discussion. The question is whether you have the commitment...that's all.
If I gave you a kick in the pants with my oblique comment, that's all well and good. That's my style BTW. I'm constantly accused of being "direct" and "cruel," and I usually don't "schmooze" that much. My style is direct AND aggressive. My comment stimulated you to write another article, though, didn't it... asking the question: "Why blog?"

Thanks, Rudi. I needed the kick. I stand corrected. I appreciate it and will work to see if I am up to the task. I love to write, the problem is that I tend to put it on the back burner.
Also I am still working to find the "Ogden's Optimist" "personality. It is good to know that others are checking in though. I will renew my efforts to provide more on this blog, though.
You have a voice. Go ahead and use it, regardless what others may think. If you keep speaking your peice and considering other people's ideas, you will grow, and so will they.
Even an optimist must research the facts that underlie his optimism, otherwise he is just a pollyanna.
Don't just state your thoughts, prove them. If the are contradicted, and you still think you're right. Prove it. Prefering to think positively is not enough.
Rudy can be tough, and he's not alone. But hang in, and speak up. We need your voice.

The statist view usually starts with a negative view of man. The Libertarian view is basically that man will do best when left to his own devices and given freedom. The statist view is that individuals are inherently corrupt; therefore we must have a strong centralized authority to control them.
The mode of discourse often masks a basically positive view with a veneer of skepticism, while an inherently negative view will often come off as optimistic.
The real meat of any argument lies behind the smiley face or frowny face of the author. A true optimist will often find themselves wearing a frown while trying to find ways to make their positive views a reality.
I hope you keep adding to your blog. Blogs and forums are creating new interest in the art of discourse.
